Review on the ESAW 7 inch Monitor

ESAW 7 inch VGA TFT LCD Monitor

My First Impression When I Opened the Box

The first thing I noticed when seeing the unit was how well built this 7 inch monitor is. It’s got a incredible solid frame which gives the unit a very robust andstrong feeling to it. One surprising factor that was how impressed I was about the framework. It has been completely covered with a rubber coating to help enhance protection (which I must say is pretty impressive).

Secondly… the vast amount of accessories it actually came with. It come with a metal stand, remote control, shroud, power adapter, car power adapter anda all in one cablethat has VGA, 2 Composites and a reverse camera input.

All in all my first impression of the unit was how incredible well built and fully loaded it was.

How Quick and Easy it was to Set Up

It must of taken me less than a couple of minutes to setup andhave running. I attached the stand to the unit and connected it up to my laptop VGA port as a dual screen which works brilliantly.

The Screen Quality when connected up to my Laptop

Whilst it was connected to my laptop as a dual screen I ran it through a few programs (Adobe Photoshop, Word and a computer game) to see how sharp the screen would be. From doing this the monitor out performed my expectations everytime. The colours, sharpest, brightness on every applications were extremely good and there wasn’t any problems with things beingpixulated (which I thought possible would happen as the screen is so small).

The Screen Quality when connected up to my DVD Player

I also wanted to see how well the unit will hold up when using the composite connectors. Therefore I connected it up to a DVD player and played a film on it. Again I can’t fault the unit, it proformed extremely well throughout every part of the film. So would be very good for use when situated in a car.

Built-in Speakers

This was a complete surpise to me, I never knew it came with speakers when I bought one. So when I heard the sound coming out when playing the DVD player I was very surprised. Thespeakers are exceptional considering they are only 1 watt. They produced enough sound that I could hear it from about 10 feet away. click this link to hear it for yourself - mini monitor video.

Connection Solely for Car Use

Themonitor comes with a third video input. However this is solely used for vehicles. I have tested this by pluging it in to my dvd player (as I dont have anything to connect it up to in my car).

What happened was the monitor mirrored the picture. What this is mainly used for is to connect to a camera which is situated at the back of your car. So what happens is when you connect it up and put the car in reverse the monitor will recognise this and automatically flick to the correctAV so you can see what is happening behind you and also because the picture has been mirrored you can see the right way round (left will be left and right will be right).

I think this is an absolute superb feature to have when using it in your car and would be exceptional for lorry companies for all their drivers.

The Remote Control

The monitor comes with a remote control which is verysimpleand straight forward to use. I was only mainly usingthis to navigate through the different AVs (from the PC (VGA) to the DVD player (Composite)) but you can adjust the colour, brightness, contrast and volume on it as well. which again was easy to do.

The Impressive Auto diming Function

This feature is probably one of the most remarkable features that I have seen for a monitor. What it does is automatically reduced the brightness of the screen when it is situated in a dark environment. The way the unit recognises this is by a small sensor underneath the screen. By the unit reducingthe brightness on the screen automatically it helps to prevent glare from the unit which has proven to cause eye strain and headaches. Therefore it is a pretty worth while feature and I reckon even more so if you will be using it in a car.

VESA Mountable

The7 inch monitor comes with VESA holes. This helped quiet alot for me as I wanted to use it as a second screen so I bought a swivel arm which clips to the side of my desk and then I can move it around when I’m using it as well as when I am not using it. Obviously with this being VESA mountable you can put it on the wall as well. The bracket that supports this monitor is a 75mm by 75mm bracket. This is a standard size so you wont have any problems getting hold of one.

Shroud - Enables Flush Mounting

I personnal haven’t used this but from looking closely at it, you want to flush mount the monitor in to a wall or car head rest or any unit you can use the shroud that come witht the monitor its a very handey assecor to have and you can clip the monitor in and out of it.

Metal Stand with an Adehesive Sticker

Themetal stand is incredible easy to attach to the monitor. You slide and then it is literally a couple of twists of the screw andthats it. An added bonus on the stand is that the bottom of it has an adhesive sticker. This works well if you know where the one place you want to keep it but what I think it is primarlly for is for people to stick on there dashboard in there car.

My Summary on the 7 inch Monitor

To sum it all up, I am extremely impressed with the entire package this monitor brings. It is packed out with so many useful features and functions, great screen quality and overall built to an incredible high standard.

The monitor was worth ever penny and I would go as far in saying the best 7 inch monitor on the market today.
